In addition, she is also part of FrogWatch, which is a citizen science program with the Yale-Peabody-Beardsley-Maritime Chapter monitoring frog populations as indicators of environmental health.. Her commitment to promoting ecological balance and native plant species underscores her dedication to both her craft and the environment.
Before transitioning to horticulture, Teresa served as a Captain in the U.S. Air Force, where she developed a strong foundation in leadership, discipline, and strategic planning. The foundation
Ecological & Native Plants
Ecological Design
This design not only applies design principles for an aesthetically pleasing landscape but also provides ecosystem services that benefit plants,
animals, and other organisms found naturally in the region. It stresses the use of native plants in the design.
Native Plants
Native plants naturally grow in a particular area and are perfectly adapted for their environment. They have co-evolved with other organisms in the region and are therefore part of the balance of nature in the area.
Invasive Plant Avoidance
Does the landscape have to be 100% native? No, but any plant that is not native does not provide any ecosystem services. Our landscape should be largely composed of native plants. A great goal is to have an 80/20 garden where 80% of the plants are native to your region. Invasive plants should NEVER be used as invasives are a tumor to our ecosystem.
Incorporating native plants into your garden supports the environment by conserving water, reducing the need for pesticides, and enhancing the beauty of your landscape with species naturally suited to the region.
FROM THE FOUNDER
tulip + apple Philosophy
We strongly believe in the benefits of a beautiful garden. Gardens are known to improve the quality of a person’s life, decrease stress, boost happiness, while also increase home property values. It is our goal to prepare a landscape design plan or offer consulting services that is not just beautiful but meets your needs and lifestyle. We believe it is also possible to have a beautiful garden that supports, and does not harm, the local ecosystem. For this reason, we do all our landscape designs and consulting services keeping the ecological impact in mind while also supporting each customer’s aesthetic desires.
